Community Engagement Grant Awarded to VCU PMR & Social Work

Virginia Commonwealth University Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation in partnership with the VCU School of Social Work are proud to announce receipt of grant funding through a 2011 / 2012 VCU Community Engagement Grant. VCU researchers are working in collaboration with the Brain Injury Association of Virginia to develop and pilot an intervention designed to promote whole family emotional recovery after traumatic brain injury. Over the course of a weekend, couples and their children will be a part of therapy groups, educational groups, and fun groups to build family togetherness. Program content will include modified BIFI materials and techniques. Participation will be free and families will receive reimbursement for travel expenses and time.

Brain injury providers located in or near Richmond who are interested in referring families to this program can contact Dr. Emilie Godwin – – for more information.
